Please check your capabilities below. Some assignments can be done with only a hand-held radio, while others may need higher power and/or more effective antennas. Either way, you will need to be able to power your radio for a rather full day, so plenty of battery power is important.

(A "portable antenna" is one that could be set up to improve the range of either a mobile or hand-held radio, that is separate from the radio and not a mobile antenna that is mounted on a vehicle. A small beam or other base antenna on a portable mast would qualify, as would something like a j-pole that could be suspended from a nearby tree or other support.)
